sat in the passenger seat of Chaz’s Nissan Sentra. The black hood, a result of a fender bender, rattled as the rest of the fire engine red car vibrated. We were reaching speeds never before achieved on that Island before– 60 MPH’s.
“Step on it!” I ordered.

y Mom poked her head in the door.
“Jim… Hey Jim… Wake up.” She whispered.
“Who?… Yeah, I’m up,” I said as I rolled over and saw the silhouette of her large head. She closed the door and I sat up.
I looked around the room to orientate myself. I was just dreaming that I was living in an orphanage in New York City, so I was confused to whether or not I was awake or sleeping. [click to continue…]

he soft summer breeze weaved in and out of the corn field. Sounding like a wire whisk beating an egg, it was the only noise you could hear, with the exception of an occasional moo from a cow.
In the distance, through the woods, the faint sound of metal chains spinning around sprockets got louder and louder.
